UBI Lab Leeds event on the 30th January

On the 30th January at 6.30 p.m. the UBI Lab Leeds will be holding an event in the Council Chamber of Leeds Civic Hall, Calverley Street, Leeds LS1 1UR:

A Universal Basic Income for Leeds – Why, How and What Next

Guy Standing will be speaking about ‘Basic Income as Common Dividends: Building a Progressive Revival’

The event’s organisers write this:

Universal Credit has not worked as it was intended. Inequalities of wealth and income are at their highest levels for a century and financial insecurity is too widespread. Something needs to change and we need new ideas. Can a Universal Basic Income (UBI) be part of the way forward?

A Universal Basic Income is a regular payment from the state to everyone, like the state pension and child benefit. It has the potential to significantly reduce poverty and inequality, boost income security for millions in this country and promote creativity and innovation.

We would like to hear your views on this, to help us find the right way forward and discuss a proposal for Leeds.
