The new Compass report on Citizen’s Income is now out: Universal Basic Income: An idea whose time has come?

John McDonnell MP, the Shadow Chancellor, has said that the Labour Party is taking a close look at Citizen’s Income. (Click here to see an article on this in The Guardian; and here to see a Guardian editorial).

A government report has found that reducing benefits payments is not an employment incentive.

In a referendum on Sunday 5th June the Swiss population turned down a proposal for a Citizen’s Income. (The proposal had not contained any detailed figures, but a working age adult Citizen’s Income of 2,500 Swiss Francs per month had been suggested: about £400 per week.)
